Land Rover Recalls 2026: DC-DC Converter, Airbag & What to Do

Land Rover issued four recalls in 2026:

Recent recalls include two for the DC-DC converter in mild-hybrid models, which can cause a loss of drive power (26V-248 in April and a software recall, 26V-XXX, in September). There’s also one for a driver airbag connector that can corrode (26V-389) and one for panoramic roof trim that can come loose (26V-097). Recall repairs are free at any authorized dealer. Fixes are already available for the airbag, roof trim and September converter recalls. Recall details below come from the NHTSA filings, except the September recall, which NHTSA hasn’t posted yet. The two DC-DC recalls cover the same models, so some vehicles may be in both.

Land Rover DC-DC converter recall (26V-248)

This is the recall that can leave your vehicle unable to move.

Which models are covered?

Jaguar Land Rover filed recall 26V-248 with NHTSA on April 17, 2026. It covers 170,169 US vehicles, and JLR estimates that 100% of them have the defect. All of them are mild-hybrid (MHEV) models.

Land Rover models make up 165,192 of the 170,169 vehicles, about 97%. The Range Rover Sport and Defender alone account for roughly 68%. If you drive a mild-hybrid Range Rover Sport or Defender from these years, this recall likely covers you.

What does “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” mean?

The converter can fail because of an internal fault in its boost control microchip. The parts come from two suppliers, LG Innotek and Yazaki.

JLR describes the failure in stages:

1. The 12V system stops charging, and “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” appears on the display.
2. If you keep driving, the warnings progressively fail, followed by loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

If you see that message, pull over safely and get the vehicle to a dealer.

How many owners have already had this problem?

JLR reported 5,952 US warranty claims and field reports between July 2019 and April 2026. It reports no US crashes, injuries or fires tied to the defect. That’s nearly 6,000 owners who dealt with a converter failure before any recall existed.

Why did the recall take so long?

JLR’s own review in September 2024 judged the fault not a safety issue. A JLR task force investigated from November 2025 to March 2026. NHTSA clarified its safety concern on April 7, 2026, and JLR approved the recall on April 10.

Is there a fix for the DC-DC converter yet?

As of the April 2026 filing, the remedy was listed as “not yet defined.” Dealers were notified May 1, 2026. Owners were due an interim letter on or before June 12, 2026. JLR’s owner notification says a second letter will follow once the repair is available.

The separate September recall below does have a software fix, but it’s a different recall for a different fault. For 26V-248, check your VIN for the current status.

Was your vehicle sold in Canada?

Transport Canada issued recall 2026196 for the same defect on April 17, 2026. Its model-year coverage differs from the US recall, so use the Canadian notice if your vehicle was sold in Canada.

Second DC-DC converter recall: software update (September 2026)

Land Rover issued a second, separate DC-DC converter recall in September 2026. KBB reports it covers 23,677 mild-hybrid vehicles:

• Range Rover Sport (2019–2024)
• Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport and Defender (2020–2024)
• Range Rover Velar and Discovery (2021–2024)
• Jaguar F-PACE and E-PACE (2021–2024)

The problem: a current overload or a software bug can stop the converter from working. As with the April recall, that can mean a loss of 12V charging, drive power and exterior lighting.

The fix: a free software update, plus a new “limp home” mode that gives a warning and reduces power if the converter goes offline. KBB reports no US crashes, injuries or fires.

Land Rover airbag recall (26V-389)

This recall covers more vehicles than any other 2026 Land Rover recall, and it has a fix now.

JLR filed recall 26V-389 on June 12, 2026. It covers 250,857 US vehicles:

• Defender (2020–2026): 97,552
• Discovery (2021–2026): 83,620
• Range Rover (2022–2026): 69,685

The problem: The driver’s airbag connector at the clockspring can corrode over time, which may stop the airbag from deploying in a crash. The corrosion happens gradually, so don’t wait for a symptom before getting it fixed.

The fix: The dealer applies a protective lubricant gel to the driver’s airbag connector terminals, free. Dealers were notified June 26, 2026, and owner letters were scheduled for August 7, 2026. JLR reports no US airbag non-deployments, crashes, injuries or fires.

Range Rover panoramic roof trim recall (26V-097)

Recall 26V-097, filed February 23, 2026, covers 178 US vehicles: 91 Range Rovers and 87 Range Rover Sports, all 2023–2026 models.

The panoramic roof side trim may detach. The dealer will re-attach it with an improved adhesive process, free.

How to check if your Land Rover has a recall

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (US) or recalls-rappels.canada.ca (Canada). Don’t wait for a letter; the lookup shows what’s open on your vehicle today.
2. Book the free repair. The airbag connector fix and the roof trim fix are both available now. For either DC-DC recall, ask your dealer which one applies to your VIN and whether its fix has been released.
3. Keep every record. Save repair orders, recall letters and notes on dates and symptoms. If your vehicle keeps going back to the dealer, that paper trail protects you.

Does a recall make your Land Rover a lemon?

Not by itself. A recall alone doesn’t make your vehicle a lemon, but it can support a claim.

California’s Song-Beverly Act asks a different question: has the manufacturer had a reasonable number of chances to fix a warranty defect and failed? If so, the manufacturer may have to buy back or replace the vehicle. You can also recover out-of-pocket costs such as towing, rental cars and repairs.
